Prasad - der göttliche Akt des Gebens.

Eine Speise, die als Opfergabe einer Gottheit geweiht wird.

Wieder einmal, im Gespräch mit einer Frau.

Ich höre nur zu und sammle die Geschichte ein,

damit sie erzählt werden kann.

Im Ashram, wo ich grade bin, das eigentlich eher einem Dorf, einer Community gleicht, werden viele Charityprojekte für die Menschen umgesetzt. Eines Tages bin ich in die große Halle gelaufen und habe gesehen, wie Berge an Säcken dort gestapelt wurden.

„Was wird damit gemacht?“, habe ich gefragt.

Die Frau erzählte mir, dass in den großen Säcken Getreide und Reis sind, diese umgepackt werden in kleine Pakete und rausgefahren und verteilt werden in die Dörfer, an die Menschen, die es brauchen.

„Warum kommen sie nicht hierher und holen es ab?“

„Weil sie kein Geld haben, um die Reise zu bezahlen.“

Die Bauern vor allem im Norden, ackern den ganzen Tag, tragen Sorge dafür, dass den Menschen Lebensmittel bereitgestellt werden.

Leisten unter unmenschlichen Bedingungen einen Knochenjob.

Während sie selbst, nicht immer Zugang zu EINER ganzen Mahlzeit am Tag haben. Manchmal ist es nur eine halbe Portion.

Eine Mahlzeit kostet zwischen 40 & 90 Rupees, das entspricht einem Euro.

Im indischen Haushalt, wie in so vielen anderen Kulturen auf der Welt, bereitet die Frau die Mahlzeiten zu.

Sie serviert ihrem Mann.

Sie darf nicht mit ihm Essen, es sei denn er lädt sie formell dazu ein und gibt seine Erlaubnis dazu.

Im Guesthouse in Varkala, wo ich neulich war, fragen die Männer mich:

„Wer isst in Deutschland zuerst, die Frau oder der Mann?!“

Die Frage habe ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht verstanden.

In einigen Haushalt, gibt es nicht genug zu essen, sodass am Ende nichts für sie übrig bleibt.

Und trotz alldem wird gegeben, geweiht und geteilt, dort - wo manchmal nichts zu geben ist. Und doch ist etwas da.

Ich wünschte ich könnte einen Spendenlink hinzufügen.

Für eine ganze Nation.

Doch es gibt keinen.

Vielleicht ja irgendwann.

A food that is consecrated as an offering to a deity.

Once again, talking to a woman.

I just listen and collect the story,

so that it can be told.

In the ashram where I am right now, which is actually more like a village, a community, many charity projects are being implemented for the people. One day I walked into the big hall and saw mountains of sacks stacked there.

"What will be done with them?", I asked.

The woman told me that there are grain and rice in the big sacks, and they are repacked into small packages and taken out and distributed to the villages, to the people who need it.

"Why don't they come here and pick it up?"

"Because they don't have money to pay for the trip."

Farmers especially in the north, plow all day, make sure food is provided to the people.

Doing a backbreaking job under inhumane conditions.

While they themselves, do not always have access to ONE whole meal a day. Sometimes it is only half a portion.

A meal costs between 40 & 90 Rupees, the equivalent of one Euro.

In the Indian household, as in so many other cultures around the world, the woman prepares the meals.

She serves her husband.

She is not allowed to eat with him unless he formally invites her and gives his permission.

At the guesthouse in Varkala where I was recently, the men ask me:

"Who eats first in Germany, the woman or the man?!"

I didn't understand the question at the time.

In some household, there is not enough to eat, so in the end there is nothing left for them.

And despite all this, there is giving, consecration and sharing, there - where sometimes there is nothing to give. And yet, something is there.
